Harae: A Wanderer's Offering

祓え — centuries before Kakuriyo no Yūsha

Wanderer Sora meets Otoko-no-Megami, a diminished crossroads kami who asks — not begs — her to purify five defiled lands. Run, double-jump, dash, and three-hit sword chains through corrupted creatures who dissolve in light when the source is cleansed. No XP, no shops, no chosen one. Hold attack two seconds at each defilement altar to win the map.

Core loop

Purify, don’t conquer

Enter defiled land → fight or bypass corrupted creatures (purple aura) → reach single defilement source per map → hold to purify → color and birdsong return, shrine bell rings → Otoko thanks quietly in ≤3 lines.

Finale: Strange Temple grief-spirit boss — purification, not destruction. Sora declines shelter and walks on; opening shrine repaired with anonymous offering.

Systems

No RPG bloat

3 HP base + one hidden relic per world (+1 max). HP resets between worlds. Dash-attack lunge, wall jump, double jump. Optional side areas (Castle Prison, Scarlet Monastery) for challenge rooms only.

Worlds: Sewer Below, Dusk Wood, Deep Mine, Dead Grounds (grief-mimic shade), Strange Temple. 320×180 native Legacy Fantasy palettes.

Scope

Asset-first solo dev

Assets: Legacy Fantasy Complete Collection (Anokolisa) — owned, zero additional spend. New Game+ harder placements.

Build order: Sora controller → purification dissolve → World 1 complete → Otoko dialogue → worlds 2–5 → side areas → audio → easter eggs.

Universe

Before the heroes

Strange Temple restored in a Kakuriyo no Yūsha background — no explanation. Otoko in throwaway Yūsha lore entry. Harae completion unlocks Before the Heroes lore tablet.

Cross-refs: shrine painting in A Quiet Post, Sora’s cord bracelet in MyTwoWives, kegare echoes Minori no Shima blight.
